Higher Education Council discusses sending Omani academics abroad for higher studies
MUSCAT — The Higher Education Council held its second session of the year yesterday. Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud bin Ali Al Busaidi, minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and chairman of the council, presided over the meeting. The session discussed a number of topics listed on the agenda, including the follow-up report prepared by the Council Secretariat-General on the steps taken to enforce the decisions taken by the council at its first meeting this year.
Unesco chief hails Oman strides in education field
PARIS — Yahya bin Saud al Sulaimi, Minister of Education, met here yesterday Koichiro Matsuura, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco). Sulaimi, who is also Chairman of the Omani National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, is in the French capital at the head of Oman’s delegation to the 34th session of Unesco’s General Conference. The Unesco Director General welcomed the minister and expressed thanks for the Sultanate’s keenness to actively participate in Unesco’s works and meetings and its rich contribution to future programmes and plans of the organisation in service of member states’ needs.
